Lately there have been several reports about the charging pins behind the LG G Watch being corroded when in contact with the user’s skin. Thankfully, LG has been listening to its customers, and brought out an OTA update which will resolve the matter. A Google representative provided Android Police with the following statement:
“LG TV, Monitors, AV and IT Support
Recently it has come to our attention that a small number of G Watch devices have been reported to have developed discoloration and residue buildup on the terminal pins located on the back. While completely safe and unlikely to affect charging, LG will be rolling out a maintenance release over the next few days that will disable the current when the G Watch is not in the charging dock. The maintenance release will be rolled out automatically over-the-air to all G Watch owners. We thank G Watch users for their patience and apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.”
The corrosion occurs due to the electrical current running through two dissimilar materials, namely the metals and an electrolyte (sweat in this case). This buildup can cause charging issues and some users are facing discomfort including slight burns. The OTA update simply disables the current in the charging pins while the watch is not being charged, eliminating the discomfort and issues.

He is very curious about just how far any tech can perform, even if it’s a low-end device.
