Microsoft is already on it’s third revision to their Surface Pro tablet and this time around, users in the Middle East will finally have a chance to buy one. At the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 UAE launch today, Samer Abu Ltaif, Microsoft Gulf’s Regional General Manager stated that the UAE is the 31st country in the world to receive the Surface Tablet. Initially, the unit will only be available for commercial purchases through Microsoft’s official distributors Alpha Data and MDC. Organisations can place orders in June and expect delivery towards the end of August. Following that, the unit will hopefully be available in retail as well.
Also present at the event was Somanna Palacanda, Director of Marketing at Microsoft Surface. When I asked him about how Microsoft partners with competing devices feel about Microsoft entering this space, Somanna felt that the market is big enough for them to co-exist with their partners without really competing with them. He added that “So many people carry both a laptop and a tablet but really want just one device that serves all purposes. Surface Pro 3 is the tablet that can replace your laptop — packing all the performance of a fully powered laptop into a thin, light and beautifully designed device.”
Surface Pro 3 is a tablet and a laptop: multiple processor, RAM and storage options intersect with a sleek design that, with a simple snap or click, transform the device from a perfectly balanced tablet to a full-functioning laptop and back again — all in a package that is 30 percent thinner than an 11-inch MacBook Air. Its 12-inch display and new, continuous kickstand provide the screen real estate and multiple viewing angles people need for multitasking. And the new Surface Pen — completely redesigned with form and function in mind — delivers a precise, luxurious drawing and note-taking experience with a single click of the pen.
Speaking at a press event hosted in Dubai, Samer Abu Ltaif, Microsoft Gulf’s Regional General Manager said : “At Microsoft, we believe in empowering businesses and people to perform more in a mobile-first, cloud-first world. We have an obsession for empowering every individual and organisation to do more and be more. That is what we at Microsoft are all about. This is what the unifying theme is for the company across everything that we do. Today’s announcement that Surface Pro 3 is now available in the UAE for commercial customers serves as the next step of our journey to empower organisations to do more. I am confident that Surface Pro 3, the tablet that can replace a user’s laptop, has the requirements to support the increasing mobility that UAE businesses require today.”
Surface Pro 3 has a 12-inch ClearType Full HD display, 4th-generation Intel® Core processor and up to 8 GB of RAM. With up to nine hours of Web-browsing battery life, Surface Pro 3 has all the power, performance and mobility of a laptop in an incredibly lightweight, versatile form.
Pre Orders from the UAE are set to begin by mid-June and General Availability in August for commercial customers only. Prices are expected to be close to what they are currently in the US. The Authorized Device Resellers in the UAE are Alpha Data and Mideast Data Systems (MDS).
