The TRA has revealed their stats for the UAE market share of mobile phones, smartphones and social networks for Q3 2013 and Apple’s iPhone 5 has overtaken the Samsung Galaxy SIII as the most popular smartphone in the UAE. The Samsung Galaxy SIII has increased its share by 0.1% however, the iPhone 5 was up by 0.9% to take the crown. Interestingly, Apple ate in its own market share with the iPhone 5 causing the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S to go down. These numbers are for Q3 so expect the iPhone 5S to appear in the next quarter.
On the non smartphone side of things, the Nokia 101/1010 continues to be the most popular phone at 4.1% market share replacing the Nokia 1280/1282 which was the most popular in the previous quarter. In Q3, the Nokia 1280/1282 (3.7%) was the second most popular handset followed by both the Nokia X1 and Nokia E5 (3.0%)
In terms of social media, UAE smartphone and fixed Internet users made a total of 13.7 billion visits to social networking websites during the period from 1 July 2013 to 30 September 2013. Visits to Facebook accounted for 91% of total visits to social networking sites, followed by Twitter with 8% of visits, Maktoob with 0.1%, then LinkedIn and MySpace.
Finally, Apple’s iTunes store was by far the most commonly visited applications website, followed by Nokia OVI; Samsung Apps; Blackberry App World and Android Applications.
