Yesterday marked the official availability of BlackBerry Messenger on iOS and Android, and in a blog post today the company confirmed that there have been over 10 million downloads already and rising.
“I’m also pleased to say that BBM rose very quickly in the Apple App Store free app rankings in the first 24 hours, taking the number one slot in more than 75 countries, including the US, Canada, the UK, Indonesia and most of the Middle East. We have also seen overwhelmingly positive reviews on Google Play and the App Store. In fact, BBM has earned 60,000 five-star reviews on Google Play from about 87,000 reviews.” wrote BlackBerry exec Andrew Bocking.
Here in the Middle East, Nick Horton, MD for BlackBerry Middle East also commented on the success, saying “We’re really excited about this launch, because we know how popular BlackBerry is in the Middle East, and what we’re looking to do is re-introduce a lot of people to BlackBerry, be they people who’ve used a BlackBerry before or not. So if you’ve previously had a BlackBerry account, when you sign into the BBM app on iOS or Android, all your previous contacts will automatically be transferred over to your new device.”
“BBM is a huge brand on its own here in the Middle East, with over 98% of BlackBerry users here using BBM. It has great engagement and is much more secure than other messaging apps out there. It’s super-reliable and we’re really excited that it’s now officially launched.”
