BlackBerry may be continuing to roll out new smartphones, but according to a recent report there’s a lot more happening behind the scenes. According to unnamed sources commenting to The Wall Street Journal, up to 40% of BlackBerry’s workforce may be cut down in the near future. This comes amidst layoffs that have been happening since the start of this year. The rumored layoffs will be across several departments, and will be carried out in waves.
There is no official confirmation from BlackBerry on this, but it’s public knowledge that the company is facing hard times at gaining any traction in the market, with sales of its BB10 handsets turning out at disappointing levels. The company earlier confirmed that it is looking at “strategic alternatives”, which may including selling all of parts of its business. The big question of course is who would be brave enough to buy into BlackBerry?
