Should kids have their own tablets? That’s definitely a debate worth having but if you do prefer empowering your kids with technology then protecting them from content that is not appropriate should be the first thing on your mind. That’s what HCL has in mind with their ME Champ tablet that includes a parent-controlled infotainment gadget.
HCL Infosystems Ltd., India’s premier Services and ICT Systems Integration, Distribution and Hardware Company, announced today the launch of ME Champ- a first-of-its-kind tablet for kids in the UAE. The limited edition ME Champ kids tablet, which is rich in content to enable learning along with play, is the smartest infotainment platform for children of all ages. It is specifically meant to improve the cognitive skills of children while empowering parents with a control mechanism. The ME Champ will be priced at AED 449 and along with the tablet a customer will get an attractive cover and a Stylus worth AED 50 absolutely free.
Commenting on the launch, Mr. Srinath Nagarajan, Business Head-MEA, Mobility Business Unit, HCL Infosystems MEA, said, “We are extremely happy to launch our exclusive tablet for kids in the ME series. We believe in creating champions with the ME Champ Tablet, which is a smart but parent-controlled infotainment gadget for kids. The unique product is inspired by our philosophy of change that drives development of innovative products to connect with consumers and to meet their technology requirements.”
“The idea of developing the unique Kids tablet took shape based on the idea of change – to fulfill and enable a child to achieve his or her full potential. More familiarity with technology is inevitable as tablets are increasingly becoming an enabler for the growing child with the arrival of ‘smart’ classrooms and ‘smart’ teaching methods in schools across the globe. With this in mind, ME Champ will enable children with more educational content along with standard entertainment — but the entire activities on the tablet can be controlled by their parents by restricting access to illegal and unwanted websites, thus ensuring peace of mind for the parent.” Mr. Nagarajan added.
ME Champ’s intuitive interface gives free access to a variety of children content including –
• Free Access to more than 500 apps for categories such as Games, Books and Education
• Free Access to first few Web Apps (more than 50 Apps) under sub-categories for Games, E-challenge & Education
• Free navigation and access to all videos under the TV menu.
The child can also play music and videos, and view photos on the ME Champ.
Parents can supervise the usage of the ME Champ through an in-built ‘Parental Control’ mechanism — Application Manage to selectively allow apps usage, Online Navigation for limited access to websites, Password Protection, live usage statistics enabling complete control, and time management.
Mr. Nagarajan also said, “Thinking about the need for a tablet for children, we did a research which highlighted certain concerns raised by parents. The key concerns of parents on children’s usage of tablets were that the device was just an entertainment device, which lacked educational content and gave children easy access to illegal sites or misleading content. HCL provides the answers to these parental anxieties with the ME Champ by rich educational content apart from entertainment and also by providing parental control mechanism for content, in addition to a real-time tracking feature”.
The ME Champ Kids Tablet features Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) operating system and a multi-touch capacitive screen; Wi-Fi Connectivity; Back and Front camera and Full HD Playback. The tablet also features 1 GB RAM memory and 8 GB Internal storage capacity, which can be expanded to 32 GB.
The child-and-parent friendly tablet gives the users separate options to enter as a kid or as a parent. The tablet also has a child friendly user interface that is easy to navigate. The product is showcased at the retail outlets in a unique and new customized packaging for kids. The new ME Champ will be available at all leading retailers across UAE, including Emax, Jackys, Jumbo, E-City, Plug Ins, Sharaf DG, Costless, Lulu, Techlink and One Mobile.
