HP has declared “Windows 7 is back” – a new promotion designed to entice buyers to choose Windows 7 PCs over Windows 8, and even offers a $150 worth of savings on doing so.
The promotion has launched on HP’s website with a “back by popular demand” slogan, denoting that Microsoft’s new Windows 8 operating system isn’t flying too well with manufacturers as well.
As TheVerge points out, browsing HP’s website presents buyers with only Windows 7 machines. One has to customize the search results to view their Windows 8 offerings. What’s more, HP even chooses to promote it’s 21″ Android-powered PC over the Windows 8 alternatives, which is pretty interesting.
Windows 8 isn’t doing too well for Microsoft. It’s forward-looking, touch-friendly Metro interface has come under fire from almost every quarter for being unintuitive and counter-productive, and it’s slightly higher learning curve has been putting off users who prefer the old ways of an Windows operating system.
It is well known that Microsoft is already deep into building the next version of Windows. If that will manage to fix the inherent problems with the platform remains to be seen.
