Instagram Direct is the new feature just launched by popular photo and video sharing app Instagram.
According to Kevin Systrom, the company’s founder and chief executive, with Instagram Direct users can share their images and videos with 15 or fewer friends at one time, instead of having to send the message to all their followers. Direct messages can only be sent to people who follow each other on the service.
The Instagram blog which has a snazzy video on the service explains the new feature as a way to share special Instagram ‘moments’ with a select smaller group of people in your life.
With a messaging option, Instagram which currently has more than 150 million members, ups the ante by broadening its appeal as a possible communication tool.
