Online music streaming is a great way for music enthusiasts to discover new artists, playlists and genres. For this reason and for its simple, convenient and easy-to-use interface, Apple’s iTunes Radio has been a major hit. However, we might see another competitor soon. According to Billboard, YouTube is on the verge of launching its own, exclusive music streaming service. We will see two versions of this – a free one, and a paid subscription-based one.
The special feature that comes with YouTube’s offering is the focus on videos rather than just music, possibly something along the lines of VEVO. A user may even be able to store music on their handsets for offline usage. YouTube is already a great, free service, so this new endeavour will have to offer something special enough to get its users to get a paid subscription. The release is expected to be later this year.
